A very popular variety with Japanese Honeyberry growers, Blue Hokkaido Honeyberry features an upright growth habit and very large, sweet-tart, crisp and flavourful, dark blue berries.
Honeyberries, also known as Haskaps, are an up and coming fruit that looks and tastes quite like blueberries, but grows on a shrub in the honeysuckle family, so doesn’t have the same acidic requirements that blueberries do. They also ripen very early, often in June in Ontario.
Latin Name: Lonicera caerulea
Site and Soil: Honeyberry likes 1/2 day to full sun in the Pacific Northwest and other cool regions, partial shade in hot regions, and well-drained soil.
